Mozilla’s Financials; Planned Growth in 2009

In an email to his staff on Mozilla’s Financials which was sent on October 10, 2008, John Lilly also revealed its future expectations for the year 2009.

To summarize everything:

Mozilla intends to grow by 75 in 2009.
Mozilla is break even.
Mozilla believes Google Chrome could reach 7% market share next year.

Apple Slapped With Patent Suit Over iPhone’s Browser

A month after being granted U.S. patent No. 7,441,196, a company in Los Angeles called EMG Technology is suing Apple for “the way the iPhone navigates the Internet,” according to a press release. The suit did not specify the damages EMG is seeking, but the company has hired a serious gun: Stanley Gibson, one of the lead trial attorneys who won the $1.35 billion patent infringement lawsuit against Medtronic.

A Pleasant Opera.com Design Change

With the recent my.opera.com change, Opera home page was redesigned as well. Old design was really bad and had old looking components, such as menu for example.

However, this one looks much better. Fresh and light. Dark red color navigation, black pop-up menus, latest news section and more.

Mozilla Foundation Is Being Audited By the IRS

Buried in the financial statements is the fact that the Mozilla Foundation is being audited by the IRS and its non-profit status is in question:

On the audit of the Foundation there has not been any formal notification of issues. There has been inquiry regarding its tax exemption. Management believes that it is conducting its operations in accordance with its original application for exemption and for which it received the advance ruling as a public benefit corporation. Mozilla Revenue Is $75 Million

Mozilla has published a revenue report for the year 2007.

Mozilla’s revenues for 2007 were $75 million, up 12% from 2006 revenue of $67 million.

As you can see, almost all revenue was generated from the search deals.

Internet Explorer 8 Delayed

No more Internet Explorer 8 Final for you this year. Date was changed. Instead of finishing it this year (as promised) IE team is going to release Internet Explorer 8 RC in the 1st quarter of 2009 and some time after, IE8 Final.

Knowing Microsoft it is not a big surprise, indeed. They are always changing release dates.
